Cause I always do. Here is what I wish I had. Quite a long story why I didn't. Either way, I am not a big fan of convertibles so no Miata(I know murder me), but I wanted something "sporty" to go have fun in(granted they might be shitty by today's standards)! So this would have been perfect, plus everything for it is sooooooo cheap. Although, there is a drift tax on them, so all the nice ones are not as cheap... So which car would you have rather bought instead of the one/ones you own?

Kinja'd!!!

Also, this is the classiest widebody S13 I have ever seen.

Yes! All the time! I was forced to buy new, but here is the exact car I would've bought if I wasn't pushed into the FiST:

nah, I always play the game of looking for cars I'd rather be driving than the one I have. The list is pretty small.

Though sometimes I wish I had a Forester XT or Legacy turbo wagon. but only when I have to carry something larger than a sandwich.

Haha, so was I! It isn't that I am complaining, but I think it would have been so much more awesome if I had bought the S13. It would have been shitty but I could make it less shitty!

Also, dem Alfa's get real expensive, I was thinking about getting a GTV6, which would be awesome, but I wanted something to work!

Yeah, I could've gotten the above car for $16k last year around this time.

Since then the prices have doubled :(

But I'm not complaining either, since the FiST is fun as shit.

As Crazed said, I kind of drift in and out of buyers remorse. I sometimes regret selling a B7 A4 for a much older B5 A4 with twice the amount of miles, but the upsides is that I can put more money towards a new bike or project car.

Buyer's remorse is a funny thing. If you aren't emotionally attached to the vehicle you shouldn't have it.

If you are attached, you get it. That's when you start playing the "What If" game.

Much like Global Thermonuclear war the "What If" game can't be won.

"Drift Tax"? That's wild.

I wasn't set on the FR-S in the first place. I wanted an E60 M5, but couldn't get the financing on it. Being a fan of all kinds of cars takes a toll on a guy. This is why they invented leasing.

I had a brief bout of it after GT Academy Nationals. Driving the Nismo Z was a taste of the horsepower that the FR-S doesn't have. But I still love my car. Now I'm just certain that I'm going to boost it.

Drift tax is basically the fact that everyone drifts them and now wants one to drift, so prices have gone up, nothing crazy but they shouldn't be as "valuable" as they are.

I love my car, but I still want something different. . . if that makes sense.

I don't have a lot of money but still need quality and a sunroof. For $700, I ended up with one of the worst examples of the best car ever made. It had been crashed and the repairs were half-assed. I still have it a few years later. Perhaps I could've gotten a better car even, for the money or perhaps not too much more, but the car does run and drive and starts every time.

I've had to move 3 times in the last 12 months. I can fit a surprisingly high amount of stuff in the MR2.. but utes are cheap to hire. Kennards don't count hours outside of their opening times, so I can grab a Ute at 4pm and have it back at 10am and only pay for 4 hours. last time was a V6 hilux on bald rear tires and the guy said they were replacing them on the following day anyway and winked suggestively.

First let me say that the car in the pics is gorgeous! I've had a mixed bag of buyers remorse. I have never regretted buying my Vette, 350Z, S80 T6, Jeep Grand Cherokee, or my morotcycle(a gift really). But I have regretted the '91 passat(trans issues), the '06 Chrysler 300(repossessed BC ex-gf), and currently my '90 Volvo 245. There is nothing wrong with the 245, but I bought it when I had more money and I should have just bought a truck.

I told my Dad to buy a NSX, and then prices jumped up. I told him to buy an Elise(which I got to test drive which was fun) when they were 25k, and then they jumped up to 35k. . .

I agree, the FRS is fun out of the box, plus no need to worry about anything breaking. Although I think the S13 would have been the perfect practice car. How to set up a car properly, and how to fix things on a car. That will have to wait until after college now.

Had I known the FiST would've taken 3 months to build and had my ignorance of trucks not been there, I would've picked up a manual transmission, used nissan frontier pro-4x and gone rallycrossing for a few years. But once the FiST was in my hands? I made 100% the perfect choice. Just big enough to be comfortable for long road trips (and I mean LOOOOOOOOOONG road trips) but small and torquey for lots of backroads shenanigans.

Ok, time for an embarrassing story. I have bad credit and I got in a decent relationship with the local buy here pay here place and they had decent cars at prices that only gouge one eye. So after paying off my Wife's Jeep I decided it was time to replace my Ford Aspire with something that gets better highway mileage, the aspire only had a 3 speed automatic and is actually not that light for it's class.

So I decided to buy a 2005 Nissan Sentra SE-R Spec V because it had been debadged and was on the front of the lot and just kinda called to me. It was my first manual so I didn't even test drive it but rode shotgun while the salesman drove around and tried to get a feel for any problems. One problem was three locking lugnuts on two different wheels were sheered off. The dealer put in the contract they would repair this. As I didn't have time to deal with it I drove as is for a little while. Eventually one of the two wheels needed a new tire and I bought a set of locking lugnuts with the key to take them off and it matched the ones that were on there, which is a good thing as they didn't give me a key.

I get the wheel off and get the tire replaced and everything is fine. Until the brakes start going bad. I replace one side on the wheel I can get off but I can't take the other wheel off. I try to get the dealership to repair it and they get their mechanic to take a shot at it. I say mechanic because this guy was basically a lot tech who washed cars and got gas. He says he has to get his tool and I expect him to come back with a giant corded Milwaukee drill and a $20 bit so he can try and remove it with a specialty tool.

He comes back with a black and decker 12 volt drill and says he's going to drill straight through and knock it out. I do my best to contain my laughter and disappointment. After killing two batteries he gives up and gets the credit card from the boss and we head to the menards across the street. I'm thinking this is it, now we get the big tools. Nope. He buys a store brand corded drill for $20 and a bit for $3. I ask him why he doesn't buy a better drill and he says he doesn't need one and that one has a warranty so it's ok if it breaks. Needles to say he did not fix it.

I go to work and keep driving a little longer until on my way home I hear a pop noise and go to press the brakes and nothing's there. Having been through something similar with the Aspire I am prepared and keep a slower pace and engine brake my way home (before anyone freaks out it was 2 am on a deserted highway. The next day when I have time off from work I drive to their main dealership at 2am (another deserted highway) and sleep in the car until they open. They open and have a competent mechanic with a lift and he uses a torch to get the lugnuts off and shows me what the brake noise was.

I expected a snapped rotor like I had experienced before. I was wrong.

That is what happens when a caliper shoots your brake pads out and pushes your piston against the rotor. The noise was terrible.

That covers most of the mechanical problems. On top of that the car recommended 89 octane to get less than 29 mpg hwy with a 4 cylinder and a six speed so no gas savings. The 2.5 liter 4 cylinder hated to rev and redlined at 6,000 rpm. Worst of all the shifter was super vague. The pattern looked like this

1-3-5

2-4-6-R

But felt more like
1-3-5

2-4———————6R

Accidentally shifting into reverse on the highway and grinding gears was way too easy and happened way too often.

The one benefit of buying from a buy here pay here is after six months of paying for the car you can just give it back to them with no hit on your credit. I turned the car back in figuring they wouldn't want to deal with me again and thinking I would never want a manual again after that terrible experience.

As fate would have it though a few months later they had an 04 Mazda 3 with a 2.0 and a 5 speed and I ended up leaving with it with out giving them a single dollar that day.

1 year in, 4 more to pay it off, got a new job that will start paying much better in the near future, probably buying something used to get me through the winter (which are much worse than where I used to live), and there's an autocross club in town here, plus a race track 45 mins away. My FR-S was never going to be a garage queen, but it will soon be a more of a toy than my only car.

Right now I am in a 1999 Mercedes E320

I bought it at 1500 dollars, clean title, two owners, typical rust.

And then proceeded to dump another 2500 into the vehicle. Tires, brakes, oil leak, AC, transmission. All needed work.

I bought the car because I didn't want my first car to go through another winter. And Oh im so glad it avoided the attack of Minnesota we got. But, This car is never going to be anything special, and for the amount of work i'm putting into it. I really wish I had gone with an early AMG model at least. That way I wouldn't feel like I was just pissing money away.

Oh, and my 1 year anniversary with the car is still 2 months away.

I remember! I totally remember, we had quite the conversation surrounding that.

Either way, you didn't get a bad car, plus you don't have to deal with the crappy KA24. Not a bad engine, just a crappy truck engine. . .

Yeah, I wish mine could just be a toy rather than a daily driver for 6 months out of the year(I use public transport for the other 6 and then give the car over to my dad). Also have you decided on turbo or supercharger?

Where I live I am not too far from 2 autocross groups an only an 1 from a racetrack. It is beautiful.

Not much around me, there is one, but it is about 10 minutes drive out for about 3 turns that aren't sharp or hard to navigate. I would recommend autocrossing once, just to see if you like it. I find it fun, plus it is much safer than going crazy on the road!

Agreed, I don't exactly have high income and with my B7 A4 which was hard to keep and maintain as it was, I just decided to sell it in order to make room for a project car, a motorcycle, and a DD. All for the price of what the B7 was valued at.

quite the conversation, among other things...

I love my car. Love it! Its just not rwd. And engines can be swapped. Or turbo'd. I was not worried about an underpowered ka24. I love that car for its cold hard sexy body. Its why i love my lude, skylines, and this so much. They have that same overall shape and proportions.

One day... I will have one.

Mine is a 96, but this generation was made from 92-96. The 1MZ-FE is reliable enough, but transverse engines are difficult to service sometimes, and the 1MZ is no exception.

I love my Magnum, between the 5.7 V8 and the RWD goodness, I'm happy with it.

I don't have buyers remorse, but at first I was afraid I wouldn't be able to afford the gas.

Admittedly, every time I see an Audi, Volvo or TSX Wagon, I have some feels. Otherwise, the North American market didn't leave me too many options, because I was so dead set on the wagon.

Ah, I guess they only put their bitchin' engines in the car you didn't get! They had 1UZ and 2JZs in a bunch of them. The SC300 had a 2JZ and the SC400 had a 1UZ. The LS400 had a 1UZ and it was glorious!!

Don't know how powerful the 3l V6 you got was though. It was probably about the same powerwise as the V8 just not as torquey. You know with they whole agreement and stuff.

Yes other things! Speaking of which, how did that work out? Hopefully all went well!

The 3 box styliing(or whatever it is called) is fantastic. It is so 90s that it is good, and not even in a bad way. It really does look perfectly proportioned.

Just buy a Miata, and then a Fastback kit for it, and walla, hardtop. I don't regret buying my Z, however I do regret not buying a F20 swapped Datsun 510 that was on Ebay at one point. Somewhat regret not getting a Miata and putting a Fastback kit on it. But the Z does have a little bit of shoulder room atleast.

The 96 1MZ has 188 hp, but the later generations got 192 and then eventually 210.

Yeah the 2JZ and iUZ are nice, and of course everything Toyota made 20 years ago was absolutely at the op of their game and it's sad we'll never see anything like that again because of cost-cutting shit :(

I really like 4-cylinder luxury cars because of the better gas mileage and easiness to work on. Too bad my generation ES300 didn't come as an ES200 with the 3S-GE!

Well they are as good as they will get considering my current situation, moving. So ive cut ties with the potentials and im just trying to keep pushing through hoping ill have better luck in my new state. You doing alright with your stuff?

I am in love with the 90's til no end. I dont want to live in the future. Just the 90s!

I see, that sucks, but remember that you are still young and have a lot ahead! I am sure you will find another girl just like that!

I am doing fine, I did a lot of working over the summer, and when I wasn't working, I was autocrossing/watching races. So no time for the socializing and womenz. Still had a blast though!

Lol you speak like youre an older man. "your still young and have a lot ahead". Joking aside. yeah, i know, its just kinda annoying. Im at a point where i really want to find a real relationship, and i cant even make any attempts at trying. So to clear all that away i just ride my motorcycle now. Its kills the pain.

And thats good! making that bank! Enjoy your semester, and dude remember, dont be afraid to say something to someone. You dont want to have moments where you wonder what would have happened if you did.

Hmmm, not really. I think because I plan to own every car that I early want. The only remorse I get is when I see an utter bargain for sale ( 1 , 2 and 3 ) and I don't have money to buy them as well as the cars I have.

So I am assuming, you hated te at for mechanical issues and how the car felt to drive as well? How old was the car cause some of the problems described sounds like it is due to the previous owner and not the car itself.

Kinja'd!!! mcseanerson > YSI-what can brown do for you

Kinja'd!!!0

I give it a pass for the mechanical failures because I agree that was due to the PO but the vague shifter and lazy engine seemed to come from the factory. As for the chassis not being that fun that may have been worn too. The main thing that was so telling is the car I bought to replace it was the absolute bottom rung Mazda 3 and it was a year older and I loved it a hundred times more than the Sentra.

Yeah, if I am ever feeling stressed I like to go for a drive. Just alone, it feels great. Plus you can think about things. If I go autocrossing, I feel great afterwards and feel like I can attack anything! But seriously, you aren't an old man, you have a lot of time to find someone. Yes, it sucks but it won't be your last relationship by a long shot!

You enjoy your's too! I have Tuesdays off, which is fantastic! Although I have 6 hours of classes MWF. . . And I am planning to finally say something to someone. This is the year! I gotta do it!

I am actually taking time off from school. Since im moving, theres no reason to sign up for classes and leave mid semester. Plus i 'graduated' with my associates degree last semester, so im kinda halfway with at least some sort of paper accomplishment. My plan is to find a somewhat better paying job (not career) and save up more money to go back to school and finish for my 4 year degree. But who knows, im open to any opportunity so anything could change.

Dont procrastinate on saying something! Even if you think you could end up looking like a fool, you know that if it does happen, its actually not the worst feeling. You will actually feel better in an odd way. You can do it. Once you do, youll want to chase those feelings more and more. Its rather addicting, and quite a confidence booster regardless if anything actually happens.

Good luck buddy!
